There is a power in the book

I remember my Junior year of Seminary when we studied the Book of Mormon.  We had a quote from the prophet at the time, President Ezra Taft Benson, on the wall of our classroom all year.  It's from his 1986 October General Conference talk: The Book of Mormon - Keystone of Our Religion.  The quote was:

"There is a power in the book which will begin to flow into your lives the moment you begin a serious study of the book. You will find greater power to resist temptation. You will find the power to avoid deception. You will find the power to stay on the strait and narrow path. The scriptures are called “the words of life” (D&C 84:85), and nowhere is that more true than it is of the Book of Mormon. When you begin to hunger and thirst after those words, you will find life in greater and greater abundance."

I made a commitment as a Junior to read in the Book of Mormon daily the rest of my life.  I've done a pretty good job of staying true to that goal - I'm probably at about 95% since that year.  And I have been able to look back at the days and weeks where I got out of the habit of a daily scripture study and I can easily recognize the loss of the spirit and the general lack of confidence compared to what I feel when I am studying on a daily basis.  I know that President Benson's words are true - when I study the Book Of Mormon - my life is easier and happier than when I don't.  It is a cornerstone of my testimony because I have 20+ years of observations that my life is because of studying it.

The scriptures are amazing and I love to read the stories of everyone having their prayers answered because they were diligent in keeping the commandments and it has taught me that if I am diligent in reading the scriptures and keeping the commandments and if I make a personal goal every week for myself to read that I will be blessed. I love the scriptures and I love this gospel and all the things that I can learn! I am grateful for a loving Heavenly Father who is always there just one prayer away and I am grateful that I have the gospel in my life because I don't know where I would be today without it.
